TEEJ – FESTIVAL OF WOMEN


Teej Festival is also known as ‘the festival of swings’. The festival is celebrated with a lot of fervor in various parts of India. The festival reflects the rich culture and tradition of India. It mainly marks the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The festival involves a number of religious activities to be performed.
Celebration of Teej Festival involves a number of rituals and customs to be performed. Women observe the day by performing a Nirjala Vrat. They perform these rituals to pray for a healthy life for their husband. They pray to the Teej Mata for the well being of their husband. This festival acts as a medium for the women to portray their respect and devotion to their husband. Husbands in return gift them with various items as token of love.
Teej is a unique festival celebrated all over Rajasthan and some parts of North India, but the real fun and joy of this festival can be seen in Jaipur. Teej is dedicated to goddess Parvati and takes place on the onset of monsoon somewhere in the month of July – August. Jaipur celebrates the festival with lots of enthusiasm, women and young girls dress up with colourful clothes and accessorises with bangles and jewellery with mostly green colour as it symbolises freshness. Decorated swings are hung from trees in various gardens and lawns all over on which women and girls enjoy themselves and sing songs to welcome monsoon.

PUSHKAR FAIR


The famed Pushkar fair is one of the largest camel fairs in the world. The fair takes place for five days every year in the holy city of Rajasthan – Pushkar on the banks of the Pushkar Lake. The main activity of this fair is the trading of livestock such as camels, horses and cattle between villagers who come from different parts of the state. Pushkar Fair has become one of the major tourist attractions of India and many tourists attend this annual fair with great joy. Some of the enthralling competitions such as matka phod, longest moustache, turban tying and balancing on camel contests are part of the fair. During this fair thousand of devotees throng the lake around Kartik Purnima in October-November to take a holy dip in the lake to wash away their sins. The fair jostle into life in Pushkar and the small town of Rajasthan becomes an extraordinary place of colour, music and movement.

HOLI IN RAJASTHAN

ELEPHANT FESTIVAL JAIPUR


One of the most renowned festivals celebrated in Rajasthan, the Elephant Festival is an annual festival held every year in the Pink City, Jaipur. It is celebrated every year during the time of Holi. Symbol of royalty, elephant plays a key role in the culture of Rajasthan. The festival is celebrated to honor the same importance of elephants in Rajasthan and the entire Indian society.
This day- long festival is a great event that cannot be missed. The festival is organized every year by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation at its official venue, Rambagh Polo Ground in Jaipur. The festival attracts people from across India and overseas.
During this festival, elephants are nicely decked-up and are clothed with colorful velvets and rugs that have beautiful embroidery on them. They are decorated with heavy ornaments and bells. Their necks are adorned with colorful scarves. Traditional Indian motifs are painted on their bodies. Beautiful head plates decorate their foreheads.
The colorful festival begins with a traditional procession, when the musicians play folk tunes, dancers perform with the beats and elephants march along in the parade. The parade is followed by ‘best decorated elephant’ competition, games like elephant polo, tug-of-war, elephant races and special exhibition called ‘elephant decoration Though elephants are the focus of the festival, other animals like camels and horses are also decorated beautifully and presented in the parade. When the procession ends, people are invited to mount the elephants and play with colors.
The colors and excitement of the festival bring out the glory of Rajasthani culture. The festival forms a great platform for presenting the folk tradition of Rajasthan. Folk dancers perform to entertain all the people. At the end of the festival, there is an amazing display of fireworks.

DESERT FESTIVAL, JAISALMER


During the winters, an annual event organized in the Golden City of Rajasthan – Jaisalmer makes the desert come alive with bright and vibrant colours. This three days festival held every year in the month of February showcases the rich Rajasthani folk culture. The entire city of Jaisalmer is bustling with colours, music and dance, Rajasthani men and women dressed beautifully in hued costumes sing and dance on the haunting ballads of valour, romance and tragedy. The Desert Festival is a great extravaganza with various competitions and contest happening such as turban tying competition, longest moustaches competition, entertaining puppet shows, folk dance competition and renowned musicians participate in various folk musical recitals. Camels also are one of the main highlight of this event as they take part in camel polo, camel dance and some other contests. This joyful festival of traditional Rajasthani culture and performing art and craft comes to an end with a captivating sound and light show amidst the sand dunes on a moonlit night.

MARWAR FESTIVAL


The Sun city of Rajasthan – Jodhpur organises Marwar Festival also known as Maand Festival in the month of Ashwin (September – October) which is held for two days. The festival is dedicated to the folk heroes of Rajasthan and a display captivating folk music and dance of the Marwar region, which revolves around the lifestyle of the former rulers of Rajasthan and this act, is known as Maand. Camel tattoo show and camel polo are some other attractions of the festival. Umaid Bhavan Palace, Mandore and Mehrangarh Fort makes up as perfect host to the festival.

Day 03 : Delhi – Mandawa (260 Kms)

The open air art gallery, as it is popularly called is famous for its plethora of painted Havelis, all commendable pieces of the rich artistic traditional of this region. Day 04 : Mandawa – Bikaner (180 Kms) 
This day explore Bikaner popularly called camel country. It is situated in the northern part of Rajasthan founded in 1488 by Rao Bikaji a descendent of the founder of Jodhpur. Day 05 : Bikaner – Jaisalmer (330 Kms)

Day 06 : Jaisalmer 
On this day visit Jaisalmer a place of must visit in Rajasthan. Moreover a visit to the Jaisalmer Fort (the second oldest fort in Rajasthan after Chittaur), Patwon ki Haveli, (the grandest haveli of Jaisalmer), Desert Culture centre and museums gives you some glimpse of this small town’s past. The Jain temples meet your religious taste; Salim Singh ki haveli and Nathmal-ki-haveli give you some more idea of the haveli architecture of the town. Besides these, Gadsisar Lake which had once supplied water to the city is also an interesting spot that you must visit in this desert city. Afternoon excursion to sam 45 Km away, is known for its sand dunes and is the venue for the desert festival. Day 07 : Jaisalmer – Jodhpur (280 Kms)
After breakfast drive to Jodhpur- A flourishing trading center of the 16th century; the fortress city of Jodhpur is now second largest city of Rajasthan and a major tourist attraction in the country. Explore the Magnificent, fort gives you a feel of the time when the Rajput might were at its peak. The wall of the forts speaks of the battles they have witness. Some other attraction around Jodhpur is Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Umaid Bhawan & the Government Museum and Zoo. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 08 : Jodhpur – Bishnoi Villages – Ranakpur (185 km) 
After breakfast, drive to Ranakpur via Bishnoi Village. Bishnoi tribes lead a vegetarian life style, they respect and conserve nature in all aspect after passing lush green valley and stream and the heart capturing view drive away any fatigue of the journey on arrival visit beautiful Jain Temple. Day 09 : Ranakpur – Kumbhalgarh – Udaipur (140 km)

Day 10 : Udaipur 
This day after breakfast you will have an opportunity to explore romantic city of Udaipur famous for its palaces, lake, museums, temples, and gardens. The City Palace and Museum is considered as the largest palace complex in Rajasthan and its museum has stunning collection of objects collected by different Maharanas of Udaipur over the centuries. The Picholia Lake, Udai Sagar, and Pratap Sagar are some of the most beautiful lakes in the state. Day 11 : Udaipur – Pushkar (275 Kms) 
After breakfast leave Udaipur and head towards Pushkar the holy lake of Pushkar is believed to have been created by Lord Brahma himself. It is as important as Banaras or Puri. Devout Hindus believe that it is essential to visit Pushkar at least once in their lifetime. Pushkar has as many as 400 temples and 52 ghats and the only temple in the country that is dedicated to Brahma is to be found here. Day 12 : Pushkar – Jaipur 
Welcome to the capital city of Rajasthan which is also known as Pink City. Rest of the day at leisure, in the evening hours enjoy walking in the colorful streets and bazaars of Jaipur City. Day 13 : Jaipur 
This day at the ‘Pink City’ of Rajasthan, will begin with an appetizing meal at the hotel offering new vigor for a new journey ahead. Enjoy the spectacular sites at this regal city enjoying an extended sightseeing tour with an excursion to Amber Fort, situated just outside the city, enjoy the experience of ride on elephant back to and from the top of the hill on which the fort is situated. Afternoon sightseeing tour of City Palace in the heart of Jaipur is known for its blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Not far away is the Central Museum. Jantar Mantar is the largest of the five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh. Day 14 : Jaipur – Fatehpur Sikri – Agra (232 Kms) 
This morning will bring you an opportunity to explore world heritage site of Old deserted town of Mughal Dynasty Fatehpur Sikri built in honor of Saint Salim Chisti. Who foretold the birth of 3 sons to Emperor Akbar, is an example of robust stability combined with originality. The main key attractions of this place are Diwan-e-Khas, Punch Mahal, the Tomb of Salim Chisti, and the Bulund Darwaza. Day 18 : Khajuraho – Varanasi [By Flight] 
Varanasi is the oldest living city of India and one of the worlds most ancient, formerly known as Kashi. The present name is derived from the fact that the city is at the confluence of the river Varuna & Asi. Arrive Varanasi and transfer to hotel after freshen up visit the colorful market of Varanasi and evening to witness the ceremonial worship or Aarti on the Bank of the Ganges. The sight presents a soothing experience to onlookers. An overnight stay at Varanasi is scheduled after a sumptuous dinner served at the hotel.
Day 19 : Varanasi 
Enjoy early morning boat cruise at the holy River Ganges which will provide a soothing sight to onlookers. You will observe the way of life of pilgrims taking holy bath by the Ghats. Later you will enjoy an excursion to Sarnath which is 10 kilometers East of Varanasi. Sarnath is one of the Buddhist pilgrims in India. Day 21 : Varanasi – Kathmandu 
This day you will have an opportunity to explore Mountain King. At morning take flight to Everest to fly above the Mountain King of the world. Then move to Nagarkot village, at an elevation of 2,195 meters, it is considered one of the most scenic spots in Bhaktapur District. At evening return to Kathmandu for overnight stay in Hotel.
Day 23 : Kathmandu – Delhi [Flight]
